Digital Radiographs

Digital X-Ray

Why Digital is Better

Digital X-rays provide better, faster, safer, more accurate dental care and diagnosis. Since digital sensors are more sensitive than traditional film, your exposure to radiography is reduced by as much as 90 percent.

Digital X-rays are 'green'

Alright, they aren't green, they are still black and white. However, they are a much more environmentally conscious choice. Unlike traditional X-rays, digital X-rays eliminate the need for harmful chemicals used in traditional processing, thus are not polluting the environment! As well, the packaging of traditional film, which included lead is now eliminated!

Farmington Family Dentistry is proud to offer our patients digital X-rays!

Composite Fillings

The concept of a “filling” is restoring or replacing your tooth structure that is damaged due to decay or fracture.  We will replace old, broken down amalgam/metal fillings with composite fillings to restore your smile and teeth to  a more natural look and feel.

Advantages to using composite filling material include:

Composite Bonding

Bonding is a common solution for:

Often used to improve the appearance of your teeth and enhance your smile. As the name indicates, composite material, either plastic or resin, is bonded to an existing tooth structure.

Composite bonding has many advantages:

Composite bonding can stain more easily than the more permanent porcelain veneers and therefore require proper care and regular cleaning. Common staining elements include, but are not limited to coffee, tea, tobacco, foods and candy.

Children's Dentistry

Child with toothbrush

The Dentist and Hygienists of Farmington Family Dentistry are parents too. We have been told we are great with children. It comes down to making kids feel as comfortable as possible so they have no fear when coming in for care.

We begin to see children at about 3 years old with an initial "happy visit" to get them used to the office. We slowly introduce the little ones to all the things we use to clean their teeth and keep them healthy.

Please call us if you want more information on how we treat children.

Crowns and Bridges

Patient getting digital scan Dr. Wilhelms, and our other dentists, do expert work on dental crowns and dental bridges. We now use digital scanning for crowns instead of using traditional cast impressions. The digital scanning technique is much more accurate, and allow us to make better crowns. These crowns fit better and feel better for our patients.

Surgical loop At Farmington Family Dentistry, another thing that makes our crowns and bridges better, and helps with all our dental work, is the use of Surgical Loops. Surgical Loops may make us look a little odd, but they help us see things that we couldn't see with just our eyes. In fact, our dentist loops magnify 4 and a half times. That means we can see details that make our work better. The Surgical loops also help us spot little problems before they become big problems.

Sports Mouth Guards

Sports mouth guards help protect teeth, but they also help reduce the effects of concussion. Dr. Wilhelms recommends that all students who play contact sports, including soccer, lacrosse, basketball and football wear mouth guards. Kids should start wearing them when they first begin playing the sport.

One of the reasons people don't like wearing mouthguards is that they often don't fit well. Dr Wilhelms makes custom mouth guards that fit perfectly. She also produces them in many different colors that kids think are cool. view our video to find out more about custom mouth guards fromFarmington Family Dentistry.

Insurance Information

Dental insurance plans are intended to assist in costs for dental care, although they may not cover the full amount. Most of the plans available cover a certain percentage of the treatment costs but not necessarily the entire cost. Most patients receive their dental insurance plans through their employer, who has a contract with a third party (insurance company). The benefits these plans offer can vary from company to company, so it is important that you understand what your plan offers and its reimbursement levels.

You should be aware of your annual maximums and if it is based upon the date you were hired, the calendar or fiscal year, etc. Once the annual maximum has been exceeded, your insurance will not cover your treatment. This is important for us to know so we can do what we can to maximize your benefits.

Some plans may have a list of preferred providers for you to choose from, and this decision can affect the levels of reimbursement from your plan. Other plans allow the patient to choice the dentist or their choice.

If you have any questions or concerns about your plan, please contact your insurance company or your employer.

We participate with the following insurance companies but not all plans so please check with your insurance company or employer. Contact your insurance company to be sure your plan is included in our network.

Some patients may feel that certain treatments are not necessary if they are not covered by dental insurance. However, this is an incorrect assumption. As with medical insurance, dental insurance generally does not cover pre-existing conditions. Treatment may still be necessary to treat the condition, regardless of insurance coverage. Sometimes the dental plan may only allow for the least expensive treatment for a condition or may exclude certain procedures from coverage. It is best to discuss your options with your dentist to determine what treatment is needed for your condition.

If you have any questions or concerns about your plan, please contact the insurance company or your employer.
